Yes USPS is the way to go. Used it many many times in the last years... but for personal sendings, you can declare it as "apre parts" or used goods/ gift, under 60$ valu should not trigger any charges for the receiver...
.... Et oui, tu t'en fais un peu trop, c'est sécuritaire ;-)
