A "real" American made Elgin made in the factory at Elgin Illinois USA in 1932.

My Wife's Grandfather's watch.

When her mother inherited it in 1940 she presented it to her Husband (my wife's Father) with the engraving on the back.
Her dad wore it throughout the war in the pacific and was with the 4th Marine Division at Iwa Jima and was wearing it when he landed on the beach.
Had it cleaned, regulated and crystal replaced for 70 bucks and runs fine for the last ten years or so.

Good story that. I just can't imagine much modern gear being passed on like this.

Here's the latest addition to my collection, and the clock face I made for it this morning.

Time to dust off this thread with a new watch. I bought this on a whim because Christopher Ward had them on clearance for 205.00. Really a nice watch, and a chance to use my new K30.

Trying out a skeleton watch, but didn't want to spend a large amount of money, so it was to eBay to find something I liked. Quite a bit of selection there, and surprisingly tricky to find something that was both functional and good looking. Lots of skeletons don't use contrasting materials, which makes it hard to read at a glance. This is a no-name (well, it says Winners on it) watch, but it was really the look that caught my eye (and the price). If I really get into it, I'm going to save up for a nice one.

Just for fun I turned this:

into this:

and then this:

I bought it for $1 with a dead battery and a broken band and turned it into an almost new looking beater watch with a little RIT dye and some spare parts from another dead strap.
