400GB per second Internet Speed

Noise-canceling tech could lead to Internet connections 400 times faster than Google Fiber | VentureBeat

"Xiang Liu of Bell Laboratories used this technique, called phase conjugation, to send a signal of 400Gb per second through 12,800 km of fiber optic cable. For perspective, Google Fiber offers its subscribers 1Gb per second, and the length Liu’s team sent that signal is longer than the trans-oceanic fibre links."

I'm filing this with my Cold Fusion, Flying Cars, Phone Calls too cheap to meter, and Big Beef Patty collection.

That's cool, but looks implausible. Balanced lines (no idea what they have to do with headphones) have been around forever, if that solved the problem it would already been done.

Maybe it is an issue of cost. The technology for noise reduction headphones was around for many, many years before it became small enough and cheap enough for the general public.

Yeah, that's probably it. Altough, this doesn't seem to have that much to do with headphones. It's just using twice the amount of fiber and sending the signal twice, just like it's done with electrical signals sometimes (e.g. pro audio XLR cables).

No idea if Moore's Law applies, but if it does, which should have this in 10 years or so*. Bad news is, our raw files will have grown accordingly.

*EDIT: Nevermind, it's 400GB, I misread.. that should take at least 30 years.

Aye, our Pentax FF file sizes will make short work of any network gains, oh that is if we ever get FF.

By the time we get a Pentax FF 400BG will be the equivalent of 64KB.... Windows 20 will require 400GB as the min system memory.
