I know I'd get it. Your friends however must be aware that in digital world this is a very old camera with tiny LCD and, poor writing speeds and small buffer (AFAIK). It's for those that care more about pictures than bragging rights and appreciate control this camera offers.

Would I? Non. None of my friends are into photography therefore a P&S would do.

I got a K100D as my second camera but quickly got rid of it to buy a SECOND istD. I don't much worry about the LCD as I don't chimp very much anyway.

2 istD cameras and I don't have to worry about remembering the different controls.

I would do it, especially at that price and its condition. Everyone complains on how expensive SLRs are...either spend the cash for the cam you want, or find a cheaper alternative.

It never ceases to amaze me how fast people leave cameras behind. It's like the first affordable digital cams hitting and making film "obsolete." Film is still used, and some are getting back into it because the equipment is dirt cheap.

Would I recomment it? Great question, lets look at the why and why not.

Why I would recommend it.

- the person already has a K10D or K20D, wants a second body with similar controls,
- wants 3200ISO (assuming K10D)
- wants TTL Flash This to me is the biggest reason, because it is the best way to get good flash with K mount lenses.
- is upgrading from a film SLR and has lots of good lenses already plus a flash like the AF500FTZ (needs TTL capable camera)

Why not.
- uses compact flash, not SD
- uses AA cells, but life is very good on rechargeables
- is slow to write, but only after many shots at max JPEG.
- small viewfinder, but really not all that bad.
