Team USA Doesn’t Want No Stinking Bronze Medal

The loss, which is tied for the largest shutout loss in U.S. Men’s Olympic Hockey history, came on short rest after an admittedly exhausting contest against Canada, who’ll be playing Sweden tomorrow in the Gold medal game.

Did they pack it in? Of course they did I'd say

So what say you???

I didn't see the game so I can't comment on the quitting but these guys are all professional NHL players for the most part and short rest isn't an excuse. They're supposed to be in shape. They know going in that they will have to play a lot of games in a short time period, especially in the later days of the tournement if they are contending for a medal. The NHL coaches are all whining that the Olympics are beating up their players and a lot of teams put pressure on players to bow out of the Olympics entirely. Winning the gold is a big thing to Canada, Russia, and Sweden. In most of the US, hockey doesn't matter except in Olympic years. Hockey is a big sport in NY, New England and the upper Mid West but ignored in the rest of the country. The Div. 1 colleges recruit most of their players from Canada and Europe.

No these guys are Pro's, and there would be their honour and reputation at stake here if it came out later.

On the other hand, would you risk your mulity million dollar lively hood for a bronze medal?

Goalie Jonathan Quick, who was hung out to dry a few times, was equally harsh.
"We're professionals. We play back-to-backs all year long," Quick said. "There's no reason we show up and not piss a drop."

That's harsh........

They were just out played. As to why they were the fourth best team in the tourney as compared to the second or third best, I don't know. But I think they were playing hard and just didn't get it done.

What the results tell me was that the other teams were just cruising through the earlier games and doing just enough to get to the medal rounds. Team USA burned themselves out getting to the medal rounds and had nothing left.
