Very cool. I have always wondered how long liquid holds it's shape in a situation like this. Now I know and WOW I want one.

It's a pretty cool camera, but the highest resolution for 1200 fps is 336x96 which is tiny.... neat concept though.

Why PB? It is just ~30x normal speed, so a 30x16GB=500GB disk gives the same reach as usual (and the resolution is bad...)

BTW, really not fast, 0.5 ms per frame or 500,000,000,000 fs (femtoseconds). Physicists are down to a couple of fs laser pulses now...

I suppose you are correct I was thinking more HD. What impressed me was this is a consumer product I have persoanlly never seen that much detail , that slow before - could be a hoax for all I really know. Regardless I think it is a neat video - YouTube is full of ** product not exactly as shown **

I didn't see, read, or hear anything in that video to indicate it is a consumer product. Did I miss something somewhere?

Mike you are correct I just assumed consumer

PDL that is impressive indeed

Maybe I have just been away from video for a while. I use to make my own when the kids were younger - not as impressive as I initially thought ...

These are cool.
I read somewhere that 1 second of 1000fps takes 1 gig or something.

I didn't see it either.

But the Casio EX-F1 is a consumer product and produces similiar results (in YouTube resolution). This is why I said it isn't fast actually.

For a non-consumer product, as I said, it would be slow.

Here, you see a 35000fps movie:
Vision Research

More interesting though, this clip at 7300fps showing the sonic shockwave of a car explosion!
Vision Research

Those guys make cameras up to
1,000,000fps !!
with up to 6242 fps in HDTV quality. Check out their gallery:
Phantom High Speed Movie Gallery
and don't miss their first clip (Wing)

Edit:
Their V12 camera has some nice achievements, besides 1,000,000 fps:
Citation: "With an active pixel size of 20 microns and improved quantum efficiency, the Phantom v12 camera has sensitivity superior to our acclaimed v7.3. So, even if you are using our sub-microsecond shuttering, you’ll get the highest sensitivity possible with the lowest noise possible."

Really, at 300 ns shutter speed (a 1/4000s is 250,000 ns) you get about 10EV less light which would translate to ISO200000 or so. Would be interesting to test-drive this CMOS sensor in a DSLR. With 20 microns and 1280x800, it should be 25.6x16mm or APS-C They can do multiple exposures within a single frame for HDR out of the box as well...
