How cool is this!

How cool is this? I went to Walmart this morning and there was a woman feeding the ducks and sea gulls in the parking lot. She said she feeds them once a week, every time she comes to buy groceries. Every year, we have lots of migratory ducks and geese that make their nests in the shrubbery in the parking lots of the shopping centers and often, you'll see a line of traffic stopped so the mother and her little offspring can safely cross the road. And you wonder why I love Idaho?

I don't mind the ducks, but seagulls are nothing but rats with wings.

Not cool at all. She could feed birds somewhere aside on grass nearby. Plus, that it's not a good idea give bread to ducks.

"Unfortunately, the food most people associate with ducks – bread – is also one of the worst parts of a duck's diet. Bread is bad for ducks because it lacks any nutritional value for the birds. A diet of mostly bread or bread-like products such as crackers, cookies, chips, cereal and similar scraps will cause health problems, including obesity, malnutrition and poor development".

True, but if your belly is empty bread is pretty good at easing the pain of hunger. Anyhow, the lady looks like she has maybe eaten a little too much bread herself.....but guessing her age is not that of a Spring Chicken, she seems to have survived it!

I feed lots of animals here in the Woods of Otis, and I find the universal best loved feed is black oil sunflower seeds. All the animals love them, from tiny Chickadees to the family of nightly Raccoons that eat what is left in the squirrel feeders. These seeds are packed with protein and are delicious too....I buy around a 100# a month along with another 100# of wild bird feed, which is mostly small seeds along with sunflower seeds.

Of course, even a healthy diet doesn't guarantee you will stay trim and slim!

Yeah, they are nice to look at but once you find yourself always walking through goose poop, you may feel differently.

Geese make total messes of the beaches on our local lakes all summer. One of the reasons why is people feeding them. I have seen tourists complain about the "dog turds" all over, not realizing it's the geese that leave that crap. Seagulls are nothing more than crows with white feathers. Nasty, obnoxious birds!
