Today was a historic day for space exploration -
first ever human made spacecraft to land on the surface of a comet!
The mission itself was of an unimaginable technical complexity with multiple gravity assists from different planets, a long and dangerous hibernation period (unattempted until now) and a total duration of 10 years. More on this from

I wanted to share a photo taken from the Philae lander while being deployed by the Rosetta spacecraft. I like this photo because of the flare and the bokeh which gives it character - it kind of anthropomorphizes the moment.
