Yup. The wooden one I have, all black, has a handle and is larger. Mother used it, but it came from the aunts who raised her and probably was made before 1900. The other darning egg is white glass, considerably smaller, in fact just about the size of a hen's egg. When I was teaching, and known locally as an expert on dinosaurs (my area of research), a fellow brought in a nearly identical glass darning egg he said he'd found in a stream and claimed it was a petrified dinosaur egg. Had a lot of trouble convincing him otherwise. As an expert on dinosaurs in particular and fossils in general, I was brought quite a variety of strange object that people thought were dinosaurs or other fossils.
