The copyright sign....

I would like to put that copyright sign into my pictures, but I don't know how to make/find the sign. You know the one with the C in the circle. When I finally figure out how to do it, I need help attaching it to my pics. What kind of program do I use? I have the Picasa one off of Google, also the Gimp2 program. Can anyone help please? Thanks!

XNView, which is free.

You can easily add watermarks (the correct term for the thing you want). The hardest part is creating a watermark you like.

Haven't used Picasa or Gimp, but the ASCII code is Alt0169, so if you key that in wherever you enter text is might work...

curious why you want the watermark? If to protect from being stolen or used somewhere else you are wasting your time. If to make sure everyone here knows it is your, well okay, but if you posted I know it is you

Thanks for the help guys I don't know why I want it really. I guess to show that it's mine. Why would I be wasting my time though vievetrick? Because people would use it anyway? Thanks again!

Use the Alt+0169 (from the number pad) to get the actual İ symbol or use the Windows character map.
Does that answer your question?

Go here to learn more about what to do.
Copyright Office Basics
ASMP: Copyright Application Tutorial

Put the copyright notice on your image (just be sure that it does not distract from the image unless you are overtly using it as a watermark) and embed it in your images IPTC metadata. (Several ways to do this and it has been discussed to before here).

On the PC it is relatively easy - as mentioned above - but to be sure --- hold down the ALT key while typing in the numbers 0169 on the numeric key pad. On laptops you have to activate the keypad to do this. I have saved the string "Copyright İ yyyy by Your Name Here. All rights reserved." in a text file. All I have to do is match the year --- Note: you can not embed the İ in the metadata you have to use "Copyyright (c) yyyy by Your Name Here. All rights reserved." or else the data will not be stored.

Or for the Mac users, Option-G İ :-)

Placing the copyright symbol on your photos is a proactive measure... Sure, it will not outright prevent anyone from stealing your work, but in the event you catch someone and sue them you can demonstrate that you placed the notice on the work. This increases the odds that you will win, particularly if you can demonstrate that the copyright notice was edited or cropped out. That makes the thief's actions more clearly aggregious and blatant.
