No offence, of course! It's just that I don't agree with you... especially as far as my SL AMG is concerned.

Now that's beautiful. The designer went to the Good School of Design.

This one didn't.

I can't wait for the return of tail fins and portholes.

I don't need them, but I do miss driving the autobahn in my 1958 Mercedes 220S at 130 k/ph burining 10 l/100kmh (26 mpg). And even more shocking unknowing 1967 Canadians with the differences between the 180 & 180D and a REAL Merc.

2014 370z. Not the fastest out there but it will get up and go. Decent gas mileage. Not rare but not a whole lot of them out there either.

A 2007 Jetta. It's leaking oil from the engine, I'll take it to my mechanic next week to see if he can fix it. Hopefully he can because I wasn't planning on getting a new car anytime soon... it does what it's supposed to do and is good enough on gas mileage.

We just bought a 2007 Golf. It's the "City Golf" sold in Canada, basically a Gen 4 Golf made in Brazil with a few upgrades. It was sold as the entry level VW in Canada alongside the current versions with the old 2.0L aspirated engine.

My kids wanted a car with stick shift and this very clean, leak free & rust free car became available. First thing I did was pay for the timing belt to get replaced as it had 162,000 km on the odometer -- recommended service is 180,000 km for timing belt change but I'm not taking any chances. This is an infamous maintenance item on this generation of VW's. The belt is $60 and labor was 4 hours!

We have had Beetles, Golfs, Jetta, Passat in my family over the years. Also Mazda, Toyota, GM, Ford, Chrysler. No Subaru though.

Glad to hear you got the timing belt sorted.I had that model before it was a recognised problem and the car started to chew the belt after 50,000 miles with expensive results!

I also had a Passat for many years (late 2002 model). I miss that car, it had a great engine, a very good stick shift with a short throw, and was based on the Audi A4. The current Passats and Jettas here in the US, I think drive more like American cars, but the Golf and the Golf GTI look quite good still.

Weren't they the first unibody car? Nonetheless I believe they were well-regarded as cheap and spartan cars. I looked into buying and restoring one as it was available very inexpensively, but ultimately knew I did not have the time for it.
From memory, there was an American made car in the 1940s that was unibody. The Italians did it in the 1920s or early 30s. Hang on ... Lancia Lambda from 1922 is thought to be unibody. The first time I heard about unibody was when my mother bought a Mk2 Jaguar in 1961. Jaguar described it as "unitary construction". The Mk2's predecessor from 1955, known these days as the Mk1, was also unibody.

I hope I'm not offending anyone but I think the recent Mercedes and BMW designers went to the Ugly School of Car Design.
It looks to me like they're trying to make their cars look like Japanese and Chinese boy-racer cars.

I'm still driving one of these red cars.

It's 14 years old and in excellent condition. It's only done around 140,000 km. I recently had the front air dam replaced. It's very low to the ground and suffers going into driveways. It's had a couple of performance enhancements and is quite quick

We’ll assume it’s the one on the right!

I'd wouldn't mind the one on the left. They're great drivers.

Hmm, maybe I'm thinking first American unibody car. I'll have to go look it up again.
