Flu shot?

Got my flu shot today. Curious as to how many get one yearly.

I never get them at all... of course, I've not had the flu in over 20 years either. Even a cold is a rare thing these days. I see tons of people get their yearly shots and immediately after they all seem to get what.... the flu.

As the son of a epidemiologist I always try to although I occasionally forget. Clinical evidence supports flu shots pretty conclusively.

I'll get one next week when my insurer has them for free. I've been getting them regularly since they've been offered. Mostly it is insurance against holiday travel. Inevitably I'll be trapped next to someone who appears to have SARS or bird flu or whatever, hacking and sneezing away. I caught something really annoying in June from airline travel.

Never. I take a shot of Scotch instead.

I wound up at the doctor's office today due to an ear infection. He gave me a prescription for some antibiotics and threw in a flu shot for good measure. First flu shot I have had in three years.

For you parents of young children with ear infections. please be patient because the pain is real and excruciating. About 35 years ago I got infections in both of my ears at the same time. It only subsided after my eardrums popped and blood and puss came out of my ears,

I have to get one yet this year and will call soon. I never ever got the shot till my 40s and never got the flu, then three years ago, the whole thing went through the family, my kids were really sick, I was sick, and I never wanted to go through that again, my youngest has immunity issues, and she was sick nearly all the winter and then the flu was scary when she got it,. so we all get. them. we never got sick the past years we got the shot. I really need to call soon.

I always get a flu shot. That said, flu shot efficacy depends on the year. Last year it was pretty worthless (I still didn't get sick), but maybe this year they will guess better and have the right strains in the vaccine.

I don't know what the difference is, but when I got mine today; they said I qualified for the "high dosage" one, so that's what I got.

What they may have meant is the quadrivalent vs the trivalent.

Absolutely, and always. As miserable an experience as the flu is, what I really don't want is to pass the flu on to someone who could die from it.

Jim, I looked that up; and that's no doubt what he meant. Thanks for the information.
