I got free stuff!

Boy was I in the right place at the right time! A woman walked into a local camera store with a box of Pentax gear. She had posted it on Craigslist, but received no responsible offers, and wanted to know what the store would give her for it. She wanted to put the money toward a Canon that she could use for video. I told her that I used Pentax, and was interested in it. I hung around the store until I heard the negotiation was over. She walked out of the store with the gear, and asked me if I would match or beat the $200 that the store would give her. I told her that I didn't have the money for that, but for part of it I could help her sell the rest on Ebay (I sell on Ebay frequently). She just gave me the lot of it, and asked me to do something nice for others, "Pay it Foward." The gear was a K-50 with the 18-135mm, a AF360FGZ, and a trio of film zooms 28-80mm AL; 80-200mm FA; 80-320mm FA, and a 5-pin flash cable. I couldn't believe my luck.

Nice score. And the store was only going to give her $200 for all that?

For me the 18-135mm was the highlight, and to a lesser extent the flash (I really want the one that swivels!). I have a Sigma 17-50, and the Pentax 50-135, but I've read that 18-135 is nice. I hope the rest will pay for a Tamron SP Adaptall 200-500mm that I bought a few weeks ago.

I'd check the serial numbers and the name if any in the copyright settings to see if it was reported as stolen Otherwise, oh lucky day!

Yep...

Tighelander, do you have her contact info?

You see, I take obligations pay it forward seriously. And don't take them just as is. You took an obligation, what you gonna do?

Long time ago I bought used knitting machine from old lady for very good price with promise to take a good care of it. She was afraid that her "baby" will end up collecting dust.

I kept my promise very well, but when I could not use it any more, I decided to sell it. I was worried like that old lady who will buy it. It was crazy bidding seriously, good condition and desired model. The Japanese factory has never been re-built after earthquake, and production stopped long time ago.
Some buyer begged me to reserve it to her, and a higher bidder requested to ship to Middle East although I did not list international (thanks, ebay!), and I cancelled the transaction.

I offered the machine to lower bidder, and she was so happy to accept that. She wrote me that old lady's machine goes to Latin America to knit garments for people in need for charity. She made my day. So, I added some very good extras for her in the package.

With that sale I bought my first DSLR, and discovered that I can use old lenses. That's how I bought my first old Pentax, and found this forum. And I can tell you for sure, without Pentax community I could stop going into photography in very beginning. I truly believed that I'm not really capable of learning all that. And the photography helped me survive the worst time in my life.

Do you follow me so far?

I like doing things for people. I went to a swap meet on the weekend, and a seller thanked me a couple of times for letting him know that the SX-70 he was selling had film available.
I gave her my card; she has yet to get in touch with me.
