I'm giving my mind a short break from longer, more challenging reads, with "Night Terrors: The Ghost Stories of E.F. Benson" - a large collection of stories not unlike those of M.R. James, with a somewhat misleading title, as there's quite a range of supernatural and otherwise weird tales within. Mostly written in the early years of the 20th century, they're very much of their time - and all the more endearing for that...

There's a lot packed into that little horror story, AgentL!

How Conrad?s imperial horror story Heart of Darkness resonates with our globalised times
I am sure there is. The prose just didn't sing to me for whatever reason. I'll definitely give it another go down the road!

Bone Rattle by Marc Cameron. Mystery adventure about a U.S. Marshall (Cutter) who live in and solves crimes in Alaska. Good book. Cameron writes in a similar vein as Lee Child, C.J. Box.

Of all the Conrad I’ve read, Youth was perhaps the one I enjoyed most at the time. Did wonder if anyone would mention the now-unacceptably-titled one too (Narcissus), but End of the Tether was also a well-told story.

A fairly short read, if I remember correctly, and the basis for (IMO) one of the best translations to the screen, for the movie ‘Bladerunner’.

My niece just got me started on Murderbot Diaries. A fun sci-fi novella, not as serious as most of the works described here.

My volume had Youth included, I did like the lingering mental visuals which that story provided.

About to start James Holland’s work ‘The Battle of Britain’.

It’s a subject I’ve been reading about since I was about 8 or 9 years old, but this book is considerably bigger than anything previous, running to 823 pages, plus references and acknowledgments.
