My books are all related to nature travel. "Bird-finding Guide to Mexico" so I can do some planning when it's safe again to head out.

I got Walker Evans' American Photographs for Christmas, perfect companion piece for Robert Frank's The Americans, since the former book was an inspiration for Frank. Quick observation leads me to think that part of the reason American sentiment was against The Americans when it was first released was due to Evans' book being made during the Depression. Robert Frank drew inspiration from it and went for a lot of the same grittiness, but during the fifties when America really wanted to put the look and feel of the Depression behind them. Rather than the common idea that Frank was shedding too much light on American problems of the day, and sentiment was lashing out at him because Americans wanted to pull the curtain over the inequalities Frank depicted, I think it just touched a nerve from the earlier Depression era and people didn't react favorably to that because they'd experienced much of it firsthand.
