It's insane to think that Kroenke or any NFL team is hurting for cash. The guy is making $290M annually and that's a low estimate but is somehow considered "small market" money. It's all a game and not just football.....
If you are going by Forbes (which I guess you are, given your 1.5B valuation of the Rams) the Yankees are at 2.5B. And that's in MLB, which is only #2 in American sports. NFL is actually more equitably run than baseball.

Sports franchises are no more of a scam than most other major businesses.

In big business, "hurting for cash" = "making less cash than I think I should".
