So you put stuff in the fridge to warm it up?

Speaking of cold, sort of, there is a saying that I heard a couple of years ago that some might find amusing. "Never eat yellow snow."

So Frank was right!

Who else would name their daughter Moon Unit Zappa? Kind of like the Johnny Cash song "A boy named Sue".

That's exactly the line I used to use about Canadian weather, and which prompted me to pack my bags and move to Oz.

Fortunately that's not what greeted me when I arrived in Sydney.

Found a flat 127 steps up the hill from Tamarama Beach, which made annual winter escapes from Montreal to the Caribbean unnecessary.

So long ago now...

Man oh man, I just discovered this thread (this forum, actually), and it's probably a good thing for my blood pressure.

The references in the earlier posts to various speaking habits would have driven me up a wall. The relatively recent obsession with the word "off" is annoying. "off of" is annoying ("...based off of...". What was wrong with "based on"?). "Rate of speed" is totally dumb. Transposing "ie" and "eg", and having people stupidly argue with you about where each should be used, is annoying. "Valley Girl" speech (or whatever you want to call it) is annoying.

I'm sure there's more.

I guess you could say I am easily annoyed

I miss Larson. I miss Calvin and Hobbs. Wonder if either is accumulating new weird ideas.

I prefer Calvin and Hobbes.

My wife doesn't like the cartoons but I do.

I saw a meme on my Bookface feed: "Yes, English can be weird. It can be understood through tough thorough thought, though."

I once had a lecturer who could come out with lines like that regularly. And he was a very nice person too.
