A long time ago, it was suggested that, if a gentleman felt unwell or travel sick, he should use his hat to contain that which emanated from him.

Anyone happen to know the use of a pith helmet ?
As I'm sure you intended to suggest, if you do not have a pot to pith in....

Milton Berle, Jimmy Durante...brief appearance as he kicked the bucket, Leo Gorcery...Slip of Bowery Boys fame...Terry Thomas...wonderful English comedic actor, Sid Caesar, Jonathan Winters.... and many more.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.... is one of those few movies along with North by Northwest that I've seen countless times. A lot of times the movie will be running on a station and I tell myself, I'll just watch for a minute or two...but invariably in that brief moment...I'm hooked and I watch them till the end.

About North by Northwest. M and I knew about the movie, especially the the famous plane and cornfield sequence, but we'd never seen it through. Sometime back in the 80's we set out VCR to record it from a no-commercial movie channel because we had tickets for something that evening. When we sat to watch it, the recording was great, except when it came to the part where they are climbing up Mt. Rushmore with the bad guy after them and a shot rings out, the screen went blank. We had set to turn-off time for the VCR about 5 minutes too soon!!! It was weeks before we saw the cut to the train.

Well it is supposed to be worn on a man’s head.

But I read once that a guy could also use it as a wash basin.

My grandfather's used their WW1 helmets as a wash basin, then a shaving basin, when on the front line. One in the Canadian Army, the other in the British Army. They had some close shaves during WW1.

The UK military would also promote the use of their "tin" helmets as wash basins, just remove the liner pour in the water and bobs your uncle. In fact they used to demonstrate how to use a folding hexamine stove (issued as part of the ration packs} to heat the washing water with enough heat left in the hexamine blocks to boil a mess tin of water for a mug of tea.

This all stopped when they issued the new kevlar helmets, apart from the fact they couldn't remove the liner kevlar and burning hexamine don't mix....

I try to keep ahead of time. Trouble is, I'm slowing down and it's going faster.

Little Johnny, who had a speech impediment, was waiting for the school bus.
It stopped, the door opened and he got on and asked the driver "Duth this buth go to school?"
The driver said OFF! Get off!
The next morning it was the same. "Duth this buth go to school?
OFF! Get off!
This time he told his mother and she contacted the school.
The school officials called the driver in and asked him why he threw that little boy off of the bus.
He said "Becauth he wuth making fun of my lithp."

Mate of mine had a severe lisp, and used to scam free pints in the pub by betting he couldn't say 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'. He'd practised and trained himself so well, he could do it, albeit slowly - until about the fourth pint.

A bloke with a stutter starts working on a building site, and the other builders are showing him the ropes. After a week or two they decide to show him how to get a day off, so one of the older brickies takes the new guy to the second highest part of the scaffolding.

The old builder picks up a loose brick, and explains that they have to wait for the foreman to walk past. When they spot the foreman the old builder drops the brick from the scaffolding, and shouts "Below!". The foreman looks up, spots the falling brick and dives out of the way, meanwhile the old builder turns his head upwards and looks at the top of the scaffolding.

The foreman picks himself up, looks up to the old builder and shouts "did you see where that came from?" The old builder shouts back "must have been up there, good job I spotted that". The foreman shouts back "Sure is, tell you what take tomorrow off with pay for saving me from a nasty accident" and walks back to his office. The old builder winks at the new guy and says "there you go, just don't use it too often".

A month or so goes by and the new builder really wants a day off, and remembers the trick he was shown. He climbs up to the second highest part of the scaffolding, picks up a loose brick and waits for the foreman. When he spots the foreman he drops the brick and shouts "B.......B.......B.....Bugger it, too late......"
