This really goes against the grain, but have you noticed how some airports sign their parking? Try London Stansted or Dublin, for example.

So I get it now.

She had been parking in the red lot, doing so because only (she thought) red cars are allowed there, and hers was red.

It kind of ruins the joke if you have to explain it. Although I thought it was a bit weak even imagining I got the joke in the first place. I was hoping it was the distance between us caused by a shared language.

That is a good one. It made me chuckle, when I first read it. Then I read it again and it made me chuckle a second time.

I told my wife and she got a laugh out of it.

It has a nice rhythm and the last line...the punch line.... while unexpected....is still a surprise...as much to the listener as it was to the absent minded professor.
