From my uncle Ron

FOUR-YEAR-OLD'S FIRST PAYCHECK

Here's a heart-warming story about the bond ;that formed between a little four year old girl and some construction workers.

It will show you that we all can make a difference when we give a child the gift of our time.

A young family moved into a house next to a vacant lot.
One day, a construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot.

The young family's four year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door.

She spent much of each day observing the workers.
Eventually the construction crew, all of them "gents-in-the-rough" more or less adopted her as a kind of project mascot.

They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks.

They gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important.
At the end of the first week they even presented her with a "pay envelope" containing $10.
The little girl took this home to her mother who suggested that she take her $10 to the bank to start a savings account.

When the girl and her mom got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed.
She asked the little girl how she had come by her very own pay check at such a young age.
The little girl proudly replied, "I worked last week with a real construction crew building the new house next door to us".

"Oh my goodness gracious," said the teller, " and will you be working at the house again this week too?"
The little girl replied, "I will, if those idiots at Rona's ever get their stuff together and deliver the damn drywall!"

The kids enjoyed making fun of little Johnny. They would hold out a nickel and a dime and tell him to pick one. He would say "The nickel's bigger, so it's worth more" and take the nickel. The kids thought it was so funny they would do this to him regularly. One day a concerned old man explained to Johnny that the dime is worth more. He said "l know, but if l chose the dime, they'd stop doing that to me and l couldn't make money off those dumb ba**ards anymore."

Akin to the one posted by normhead above.

Work had started on a new chapel at the nunnery, and Sister Superior thought it prudent to warn the novices about rough language used by the workmen.

She gathered them and said. "You must be mindful that these are simple men who are prone speak forthrightly and to call a spade a spade."

"Oh no, sister superior'" replied one of the novices. "They call a spade a freakin' shovel."

This is not a joke, but a link to many jokes:– Gary Larson has at last launched a website, The Far Side Comic Strip by Gary Larson - Official Website | TheFarSide.com

For all who love his humour and remember the origin of "thagomizer."

The one that always comes to my mind is the "Ice Crusades" = all those knights on skates.

My son (who's eight) asked me this, "Dad, what kind of law can you eat?"

Me: "I don't know."

Elliot: "Cole's Law!" Followed by shrieks of laughter.

The importance of proper grammar:

A wife asks her husband, "Could you please go shopping for me and buy one carton of milk and if they have avocados, get 6.

A short time later the husband comes back with 6 cartons of milk. The wife asks him, "Why did you buy 6 cartons of milk"

He replied, "They had avocados."

I've always considered a good laugh one of the best things in life. This one made a big contribution.
