In one house where I lived, I utilised the basement for a dark room and a chemistry and biology laboratory.

I was told this was debasement of science.

In some places marijuana is now legal but haircuts aren't (due to Covid restrictions).

It's taken more than 50 years, but the hippies are winning.

There are other strange things in this country. It's legal to carry a concealed pistol if licensed to do so, or even carry a loaded firearm openly in some states without a permit, but everywhere, SFAIK, it's illegal to carry a cane sword (you might hurt someone with it). In some states it is even illegal to own a cane sword at all, with punishments, depending on the state, of a hefty fine or even imprisonment. Go figure, but in fact I know exactly why.

Funny thing, man has been consuming marijuana for centuries. Not only for the mind altering properties, but the fiber from the stalk to make rope and fabric, the seeds for oils and feed for animals.

Hemp, a relative of cannabis, was cultivated on a large scale in North America for the fiber, oil and seeds, up until the 1930's. It still grows wild across the upper Midwest.

Like this patch in rural Nebraska.
