Susan took a book for interpretation to a meeting of the American Literal Society out on Cape Cod. She was shocked to discover it was actually a meeting of the American Littoral Society

Did she wade in, nonetheless, only to find herself out of her depth?

The current topic discussed dampened her spirits and drowned her enthusiasm. She felt swamped by wave after wave of unfamiliar vocabulary even though it seemed like an intellectual backwash. But swept away by the ebb and flow of foggy ideas, she waded in with crabby comments and fishy theories.

So, it was a littoral inundation?

The new young beach life guard was chatting to the older fellows while they eyed the girls in the surf. "The girls don't notice me like they do to you more experienced blokes. What can I do to attract them more?" he asked. They looked at this slim newbie in his tight swimming costume. Tell you what, said one of them, put a potato in your swimmers, they will notice you then.
The next day, the young fellow came running up from the shoreline. "It didn't work, the girls are all chasing me away like they don't like me" he panted in exasperation. The older fellow who had suggested the potato move, glanced down at the boy, and said. "Charlie, you got to put the potato in front, not the back."

I thought Pentax was downsizing when it adopted APS-C. Now they're going retro with a 8X10.

"Cop: 'You're going to prison for forgery.'

Me, sliding a 37 dollar bill across the table: 'What about now?'"

Like the counterfeiter who walked into a store and asked for change for the $18 bill he made by mistake. The clerk asked, "How do you want it, three 6s or two 9s?"

My neighbor was arrested today for growing marijuana.
Turns out my property line wasn't where I thought it was.

A friend of mine is employed as a bookbinder. He came round the other evening for a cup of coffee.

'Come in,' I said. 'Make yourself a tome.'
