Around here the pollen count is so high that drug dealers are turning crystal meth back into Sudafed.

I used to be employed in a sweet-making factory, making lollipops. Our slogan was 'There's a sucker born every minute'.

What are pirates charging for corn on the cob?

A buck an ear.

Take a lesson from the birds who always pair for life.

They are mute swans.

Inflation? In the space of 12 months during the 1973 oil embargo, gasoline in the USA went from 38.5 cents per gallon to a budget-breaking 55.1 cents per gallon . How would you like to face prices such as that again?

Those were tumultuous times. I had just started driving, and recall dramatic swings in fuel prices. The gas wars were interesting. Gas was in the 30 cents a gallon range then dropped to 19 cents a gallon. My dad had me take his pickup down to the barn and load up 55 gallon barrels. Then we went to the local Enco (Exxon today) and filled them up. Put them away behind the barn and waited for the price to go back up before we started using the fuel.

I’d like to see 19 cents a gallon again.

When I first started driving my own car, my sophomore year at college, gas was typically about 25 cents per gallon. I have noticed that the price of a gallon commonly tracks reasonably close to the price per pound of good quality ground beef.

In the UK fuel is priced per litre,in line with previous EU requirements. There is some talk among Brexiteers of going back to good old British gallons. But with present prices and over 4.5 litres per gallon they haven’t thought through how the astronomical hike in forecourt headline prices would look to consumers.

An imperial gallon is about 20% larger than a US gallon, so expressing the price of gasoline in Britain using that measure might make Americans think they are well off.

We are presently paying close to £2 per litre (by my reckoning just under $9 per US gallon, but my maths may need checking) and are feeling very poor

It’s no joke!!

We were wincing at $2AU per litre here, so I’d say the jokes on you, or I would if I didn’t think we’d be likely to head the same way. The joke’s definitely on those who believe the partisan stories that circulate about who’s to blame for it. The joke’s over, as Ralph Steadman put it.

OK, moving right along.......

I recently bought a female Horse that I was hoping to ride daily, but she only sleeps during the day.

She's turning out to be such a Nightmare.
