Is it true what they say about big hands?

I read recently that the average man's hand, when placed flat on a table and measured from the tip of the pinky to the tip of the thumb, is 7.4"

Deforest Buckner, a 6' 7", 291 lb. defensive lineman for Oregon and an NFL hopeful has hands that span 11 3/4"! Geez.... that's as big as a catcher's mitt!
Add to that, arms that measure 34 3/8" ! I realize that his size doesn't necessarily mean he can or will be a good football player, but.... just sayin'.......This is one BIG man!

I say those are good hands for the 645Z - he can safely bypass the K1 ... lucky him!

Naturally, I had to see how I measure up to the average man.

Well, he has 4 inches on me for height, but only 1 3/4 inches extra hand span. If he played receiver, I could see the benefit of bigger hands, but a defensive lineman? As they say, it isn't how big you are, it is what you can do with what you have.

Interesting. I can't believe 7.4" is an average span. I have small hands (and not much height) and I measure 8" span. Maybe it just means I have hands still adapted for swinging through the trees (posted while singing The KInks "Apeman" to myself).

I can stretch to 9" and I would not have thought my hands particularly much bigger than the average.

A biblical cubit, which is two 'spans', is 18" - so if you need some old artefact measured I might be your man!
