I just discovered that PayPal lets you purchase and print shipping labels with much more flexibility than USPS.com. First of all, you get online access to first class packages and first class mail international. Second of all, prices are lower across the board (commercial base pricing instead of retail pricing) compared to USPS.com or the post office, and you get better international tracking.
Around the start of the year, USPS greatly increased pricing for light shipments, especially international ones, in part by eliminating commercial base pricing from USPS.com. For example a 6oz international package I sent in early January cost $7, while now it's almost twice that. With PayPal's pricing, you'd save around $1.50 for this kind of package.
You do
not need to engage in a paypal transaction to create a shipping label. In other words, you can ship to anyone, anytime. Here's the link to the label tool:
