This word gets slaughtered.

This post is completely meant to be fun and not poking fun at anyone. I make my fair share of typos and spelling mistakes. "You" instead of "your" is the most common. Another is "really' or is that realy or relly, I've tried them all....

I've misspelled this word myself and am not guilt free!

After reading so many posts that contain a description of the iris blades within a lens, I'm surprised at how many versions of "aperture" there are.

Aperature
Apperture
Aperatur
Aprature

And any number of variations on that spelling. I know many of the posts here are from people who don't find English easy and I applaud the effort to join in. It really makes no difference as long as others can get the point of the message.

These forums are much more readable than some others I've seen and text/chat messages are another language! As I said it's not meant to step on any toes. I rely on the spell checker too.

What's your favourite misspelling?

The seeming universal "loose" instead of "lose". Drives me nuts.

Great Kent. it's a good flash and great on that camera. I'm very happy with my TTL results.

"pickled" eh? in keeping up with the thread theme, were you drunk when you placed the bid on the flash...

there/their/they're

your/you're

And then there's random apostrophes turning plurals into possessives :ugh:

in some languages the "spelling bee" contests are not possible by definition - one letter = one sound... at least English is not as bad as French, not that I like both.

Easy for you to say. But as John Cleese noted "It's like they have a different word for everything!"

This one has been my favourite since a university prof said as an example of misused words:

There was a great navel battle at sea.

Had the invincible Spanish armada conquered England this forum would probably been in Spanish, a nice language were words mostly are spelled as they are spoken and spoken as they are spelled. Unlike English were words are in general spelled in one way and pronounced in another way, or vice verse. But maybe we would not have had computers or internet either. I use English so much in my profession that it is some 15 years ago that I begun to dream in English (sometimes), but I will never stop spelling English bad, or pronounce words strangely despite that I know how to spell them. You need to be born with it. So you will have to live with this I'm afraid. Good to see that you enjoy it. It's such a good thing to be able to make people happy

Isn't aaperrtiur actually more close to how it is pronounced?

I'm almost guilty as charged, however in my case it's looser or loser
