I'm thinking of selling my Pentax system.

This decision has been rather tough for me to make.

As some of you know I've been shooting both Pentax, and Sigma for a few months now.
And as much as I love Pentax I'm starting to realize that the Sigma is just better suited to my personal style.

As a result I'm seriously thinking of selling my K100D Kit, along with 5 additional lenses, a cheap tripod, and even my #1 camera bag as a starter kit.
I know that anyone with a little passion can easily get several breathtaking photographs with it.

I would still be keeping, and using some of my Pentax lenses, plus my distant plans involve a Pentax 6x7 film camera.
So I'll probably still hang around..... if you'll all let me.
Plus if anyone needs a little advice I'd still be willing to help them out.... if at all possible.

I have a wedding to shoot this weekend, where my K100 will make an excellent backup. But after that I'll probably list it locally.
If at all possible I'd like sell it locally, and help whomever buys it get started if they need it rather than through the marketplace.

The shop I usually deal with has offered me a sweet deal on another SD14 body, helping me make this decision.
But this is entirely my decision, so please don't think that they twisted my arm in any way.

You have to go with what works for you Stu. Hopefully you'll get a good price for the gear and make it painless.

I'm assuming this has something to do with the difference between the CMOS and CCD sensor IQ. Feature wise the Sigma seems barren. I know I certainly wouldn't trade SR (just to name one feature) for event and wedding shooting. Low light and slow shutter speeds is often the norm for this work. Having to pay top $$ for anti shake lenses isn't that attractive. Did you give the K20D any serious thought?

The Commander of the 1st Pentax Regiment has recently suspended flogging as part of the ceremony for this Regiment. However, he reserves the right to reinstitute it if the troops get too unruly.

Actually you have added a lot of good information to these forums and your opinions have also been welcomed by me. Please do "hang around".

Stu - do you what you feel is right for you. This is a no brainer as this is your profession and only you know what you need.

We'll check with the mods about giving you grandfathered clause access to the forum

I for one would miss all those shots of the Okanogon and the wonderfull stories you have - so shoot what you suits you and stick around eh.

But, when you get that 6x7 the lenses will work on the Pentax dslr.
Understand when another piece of equipment works for you. Can't imagine trading a K20D for the Sigma (except for B&W IR). Have you considered the K20D? Wouldn't even do that until after Photokina announcements.
Either way you should stay on the forum and participate. You add a lot to the mix.
thanks

What do you mean "If we'll let you" - you have too much to offer and teach us, not to let you stay. Besides, we would miss ya.

Well at least you are not jumping ship to Canon or Nikon... For that we might have to reinstate flogging! LOL

Seriously, go with what works for you. Only you know the answer to that...

But at least buy an Optio so you can come around as a Pentax Owner.

What would this forum be without Stu. IMHO you are welcome here as long as you want to be. You will still have some Pentax lenses, so I think that qualifies you anyway.

Thank you Peter,
Your right about the biggest difference in the sensor. Although there are a couple more things. Like flash photography, where Sigma easily blows even Nikon away.

I really don't use SR, however I agree with you that the Pentax in body is the way to go.

I tried a K20 the first week of it being released, and I think that Pentax has a wonderful product there.
I still preferred the Sigma images, however it still beats the big 2 hands down.

Thank you Bill,
And don't worry I'll hang around.

The best thing about Pentax is this forum

Thanks Dave,

You just know that I'll still post pictures of the area
As for the stories, well that might change a little

Oh, did I mention, that I recently started going out with a poet / writer.
And she might be doing some of my writing when she's up

Thanks barondla,
Trust me, I really thought about using the 6x7 lenses on a Pentax.
Then I remembered they also work on the Sigma equally as well

I was also thinking of starting to use my old point and shoot more often, and hopefully enter a few pic's into your photo contest

Thanks JC,

In all reality I learned everything I know right off of Pentax Forums, so there's no reason why others can't without me

I'll hang around, and don't worry, I'll even be able to contribute more as I learn it.

Thanks Mike,
I might just get a Pentax point and shoot. Their waterproof models have always interested me.

Thanks Fred,

I figure that there are so many people here shooting Pentax cameras, with Sigma lenses.
And I just got a little mixed up, doing things the wrong way. Just like normal, for me

One thing to remember too - you are buying older technology. The camera was originally announced in 2006. Cameras have really changed in that period!

Stu, would love to still see you here. That idea of selling all the gear came across my mind as well. Just selling all the gear is going to be a headache itself.

Wish you all the best with the new gear.

Stu, I know we will stay in touch but I hope you will hang around on the forum. I need someone to play 'topless pics' tennis with.

I hope you won't mind me giving my opinion;
I'm not that technical but I do know that the Sigma is a different kind of camera and quite specialised. That's why you have one already right? On the other hand I think it would be a shame for you to close the door on what you have been able produce with your Pentax.
On a personal note, I know how much fun you have when you find those bargain lenses. I don't think you can do that with a Sigma.

Above all, you are a well liked person on this forum and you would be missed.

My 2 credits worth
Gary

One more thing, I've been looking at the Sigma myself, at just over $500 bucks, it's a steal. It certainly seems like it would work for a lot of the stuff I would like to shoot and people who use them seem to love them. I'm kind of tempted and I can afford to run two systems but it would be decadent of me at the moment. I'd like to try and sell some of my stuff, when I get to that level, maybe I'll consider it

Hey, Stu - you know where my place is. I've never seen the SD14 in real life. It's worth a free cuppa any time. Keep on hangin' around!
