BB gun war with a friend of mine. Came within 3cm of my eye. Out dads were not happy at all. WWII vets had very strong reactions to their kids not respecting any sort of guns.

I do love that movie. The house is like being back in my home as a kid. Amazing how many memories it triggers in me.

My father-in-law used to have "wars" with BB guns when he was a kid during WWII. Luckily he was not a great shot at the time, he used a .22 short for his gun of choice! Happily no one was injured or killed in their "battles"!

Among other broadcast times, one of the FOX networks usually has a 24 hour Cristmas Eve/Day Marathon.
Christmas just isn't Christmas without The Polar Express and A Christmas Story.

Anybody know when A Christmas Story will be broadcast this year?

For many years we had Jean Shepherd on the radio here in New York.

My favourite Christmas movie is Remember the Night , starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray. It's on usually just before Xmas on TCM and I find a wonderful movie. Great casting, well written story.... it's B+W, made a very long time ago....if you get a chance watch it. You may enjoy it as much as I do.

As above. One of the FOX networks usually runs an A Christmas Story marathon on Christmas Eve/day.

About 15 years ago my father went to the hospital to have a disturbing lump removed from his shoulder. He was about 63 at the time. Turned out said lump was a fatty mass that formed around a lead BB he'd been shot with - when he was 8. 55 years of carrying a war wound, and he hadn't even realized it!

Hehehe I did the same thing on that instance when I got the 88 ... the last shot I took was a 1 bounce and right back to me. Game over.

I got 109 on another shot today.. I wonder what is the max number of bounces possible?

Meh. We had bottle rocket battles using a Wiffle Bat with the end cut off as a launcher. As we grew up we pressed cheap ski goggles and Carhartts into service as protective gear.

Lesser troops would light it with one hand, hold it, and throw it with the other so it 'lit off' pretty far away, but that was less accurate.

I'm not sure how old I was when I got my first bb gun, but it wasn't easy for me to cock.
So I would put the barrel end on the ground to give me leverage on the lever.
One time I got the bright idea to leave the lever down, thinking in my small brain that I could fire once, then close it and fire again.
Man did that thing smack my fingers!

A drop or two of oil inside the barrel made them shoot much harder for a short while.

My best remembered shot was at the head of a single match in a matchbook.
I stepped back, probably not as far as in my memory, aimed, fired, and buried the head of the match.
