Did the Falcons choke? Did they get over confidant and relax a bit? We've all seen playoff games where a team was smiling and giving each other high fives on the sidelines, only to get slapped down in the last few minutes. I don't know the answer but their offense certainly didn't play well in the second half. They're a young team and made a lot of rookie mistakes, especially the holding and interference penalties which were plainly obvious. All they needed was a field goal and they would have the trophy but they didn't deliver.

While Brady played a great second half and deserves the recognition, the Patriots defense really stepped up in the second half too and deserve some credit.

Probably already said, but the falcons defense was out on the field the majority of the game. They simply wore down over time and whenever you give tom brady a chance he's going to cash in on it. Crazy game to watch for sure.

It's a good point. If the Falcons even scored a field goal in the fourth quarter (they were in field goal range once but had a sack and holding call against them) the game would have been over in their favor. Even if they had just run the ball a little more and taken some more time off the clock, there may not have been time for the Patriots to score their final touchdown.

I didn't have a dog in this fight and am just glad that it turned into a decent game -- it looked like a landslide for the Falcons through the first two and a half quarters.

Atlanta offensive collapse. Defense just plain tuckered out.
They took themselves out of field goal range twice by forcing the shotgun set.

Watch the 4th qtr again and I think you would realize they chocked. The qb choked and so did the coaching. They had a chance at a couple of chip shot field goals. They are 1 & 10 at the 22 and try to run a shotgun spread and New England's defense blew it up. The defense was worn out, but all they had to do was make a stop or 2. Then the lost the coin toss in OT.

Tom Brady is one of the best quarterbacks I've seen. He is definitely up there with Montana. Looking at his receivers over the years, other than Randy Moss, they just haven't had any top shelf talent. But Brady is consistent at getting the ball to the open guy.

At 39, he can't throw the bombs downfield he used to, but there are very few quarterbacks other than Joe Montana that I would trust to engineer a come back like that -- regardless of the team they were playing.
Part of it is the 'Never Quit' team / Belichick mentality. They all share it.

Viewed from the perspective of a (former) St. Louis Rams follower. (2002 20-17 Patriots 3:00 4q final drive for TD. Rams relaxed and partied on the sidelines and the defense was flat).

I really thought losing the coin toss was the biggest choke job of all!

Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch...............
Bad memories of that game.

True but the Falcons are younger and keep in mind that that the Patriots offense was on the field all that time and their 39 year old quarterback was getting hit a lot. A lot of the offensive players got manhandled in the first half, yet they kept going.

Yep, it's never over till it's over.

In the playoffs and the Super Bowl, you can never relax and cruise, even with a three touchdown lead. A true professional isn't going to get rattled when things aren't going well. He will keep trying to find a way to get it done.
