Not a photography question: Anyone here knows about Samsung Galaxy S5 battery ??

Morning !

I thought of re-posting a query here since I am not getting feedback from Androidforums.com.
So, I am taking a chance just in case someone would come up with a solution and here is what I posted at the android site:

"So, I've had my Galaxy S5 for a long while and it also updated the OS to version 6.01 on 2016/08/02.
All was fine until two or three days ago when I noticed that the battery would drain much faster than previously.

To give the story:
Last evening (10 pm) I see the battery is at around 30%; plug into the charger; full charge obtained; put the phone on my desk overnight; (phone is on "idle" - not turned off, as usual); battery show 96% (that would be approximately 8 hours).
Great ! Battery is holding .... NOT !
I take the phone with me at the office (there is WiFi there but I am not using the S5 the entire day. Check at noon: 75%; check at 5pm: 61%; check at 9:45 pm: 40%.
Note that I have NOT sent messages nor made a call all day .. just received one single message from my daughter.

The battery used to be good for at least 2 full days with lots of calls and messages. Not anymore.

Here's the weird thing:
If I go to Settings>Battery>Battery usage> I get to the graph and at the bottom of the screen several items such as Android OS, Android system, cell standby ... etc., the Android OS is using 46% (and decreasing as I am presently watching the S5 while it's on).
Android system: 4%
Cell standby: 3%
Bluetooth, WiFi, Device idle and screen all at 1%.

I have searched here for answers (lots of posts on that but not to what applies here - maybe?)

So, is someone aware of a similar problem where the Android OS is gobbling up the battery for the past two-three days only?

Hoping to get some replies/solutions
. "

The S5 battery is now at 12%, without having used it for the past 24 hours !!
Any solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !

You probably have an app that's sucking the battery. First, charge the battery fully before going to bed, then turn off Mobile Data. If the battery didn't drain overnight you'll know that it's an app causing the problem.
If you've installed any new apps since it was last working properly remove them one at a time (one each day) and see if the problem resolves.

I have just finished charging the phone and it is OFF.
I will turn the phone ON and turn off the mobile data.
Do I leave the phone ON from there?
Thanks.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? It might be an IT cliché but it generally works.

OK, I have tried what Parallax said ... and I also (of course) turned it OFF and ON again.
Battery drained very fast to 89% within 10 minutes of turning the phone ON then has "stabilized" at that percentage for the past 30 minutes.
I have also checked all the apps ... none were changed nor added for the past several weeks, so I am wondering why it always shows that the Android OS is gobbling the battery.
Anyway, I will check the % battery later and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies!

My thought is that your battery is just worn and not holding a charge well. That's expected if the phone is a couple years old or more.

My wife has a Note 4 which had the same problem until I purchased a replacement battery from Samsung. Her model has a removable battery. I'm aware that a lot of phones today don't

Update:
I turned the phone OFF, plugged in the charger, picked it up in the morning/turned it ON: full battery which lasts as much as it were new!
Go figure!?

Maybe a calibration issue, but it shouldn't have been resolved this way. Weird.

Some Android phones start to show inaccurate measurements in the battery meter until you do the following:

Leave the phone ON until the device turns OFF on its own due to battery drain. Then charge it FULLY before turning it on again. This should recalibrate the battery meter.

In either case I'd give it a few days just to confirm that it's really lasting as long as it should.

I use one, it's my second Samsung Galaxy device. The batteries can start to act wonky as they age. Apps also can suck a phone dry. Samsung adds a lot of "stuff" onto Android, and I have little clue what most of them are.

Galaxy S5 Phone Batteries and Accessories ? Gorilla Gadgets
I use extended-life batteries from Gorilla Gadgets. They last a couple of years, but seem to do well. I do like to carry a spare along, and not rely on an external battery pack. I'd like to replace the phone eventually with one which also has replaceable batteries, but they seem to be falling out of favor.

Advice above about the battery meter is good. It also is a reason I like to have removable batteries and run them dry.

I'm keeping this is in mind for possible future happenings with this battery thing.
So far, since I've turned the phone OFF and ON, it's been OK.

Replies appreciated!

I just figured out why my phone battery doesn't hold a charge for very long. It has a visible bulge. I got a replacement battery and battery life is back to normal.

It's a flip phone that cost me like $10 maybe five or six years ago. The battery was $3.50 with free shipping from Walmart.com. Battery life is about a week. My cell phone budget is pretty small.

Yes, bulging battery = bad juju.
And yeah, those little flipphones are pretty bulletproof. I really liked my old Motorola Razr, that was a great phone.

I can't tell you which update started it bit my s5 did the same thing

I ended up disabling almost every Samsung app...that helped some

when I turned off wifi and Bluetooth...that fixed it for me
the system was constantly searching for a signal

now I only turn them on when I need to

Samsung batteries are rated for around 2 years, perhaps 2.5 if internal with without BT and GPS on.after that, cells inside will dry up, just like laptop batteries..you may turn off most back running apps but at the end of the day, its your battery..theres some S5 replacement tuts at XDA..never use a knife..
