Another of my favorite movies is 1964's "Seven Days in May" directed by John Frankenheimer, who also directed Birdman of Alcatraz, Grand Prix, The Manchurian Candidate, The Train, and The Gypsy Moths.
It had big-name stars including Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Fredric March, Martin Balsam, Ava Gardner, Edmund O'Brien, and Whit Bissell.
The movie was written mostly by Rod Serling of Twilight Zone fame.
In a nutshell, Burt Lancaster, with the heads of the different armed services, is planning a political coup to overthrow president Fredric March. Kirk Douglas works for Lancaster and discovers the secret, which he relays to the president.
There are no weak scenes, so I give you two.
In this first scene, President Lyman confronts General Scott.
This is the ending scene with a speech by the president, moments after obtaining the resignation of all the traitors. Rod Serling all the way.
