Hi Carol. I hope this link answers your question. I don't have Firefox, so I am unsure of this information. Good luck.

Hopefully these two links will help.

The first provides the simplest answer for what you want to do: Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back u... - Mozilla Support Community

This second link details info on your profile that identifies further info on bookmarks and restoring them from a backup: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, pa... - Mozilla Support Community

Well, I'm stumped; I cannot find/get to "Library" for Import/Export. Just clicking "Bookmarks", does not allow me to do anything but read the bookmarked items.

Click on the bookmark menu icon and choose "Show All Bookmarks" (alternatively, control+shift+B). This should open a new window (the "Library") showing all your bookmarks.
  • The menu bar on the "Library" window has an icon for the "Import and Backup" drop menu
  • You have two options, both of which will work for eventual import to a fresh Firefox installation. One is backup to a JSON* file and the other is exporting the bookmarks out to HTML.
  • The difference is subtle:
    • A JSON file allows for restore of a previous menu. I am not sure (never used it), but I do believe that doing so will overwrite any existing menu items. The JSON file is not human readable as plain text.
    • The HTML version is readable and clickable in any Web browser. Again, I am not sure (been a couple of years since I last used it), but I believe that import of HTML adds bookmarks to the existing list.
Either approach should be adequate for backup purposes.

Nope, only shows about 6 misc. bookmarks, not my entire list.

Clicking on the main Bookmarks link shows all, but not able to edit, export, etc.

I'm getting a new computer next week, and wanted to be sure all my bookmarks are saved, just in case something goes wrong.

Hi Carol,

Following Steve instructions, i get this window opened:

All my bookmarks are located within this three forlders:
  • Bookmarks Toolbar
  • Bookmarks Menu

Have you checked all different folders under 'All Bookmarks'?
