Copy iPod Classic To iPod Touch Questions

I just picked up a Gen 6 iPod Touch. I have an iPod Classic with about 6,000 songs on it. I want to copy my music over to the new iPod, but there seems to be some sort of problem. Even though the menu choices are present, and seem to work when clicked, the songs never transfer, and I never get any dialog pop ups telling me there is a reason the files didn't copy.

Apple is no help.

I've searched the web, and find myriad versions of ways to 'trick' the iTunes software into letting me copy my own music from one device to another, but none are clear standouts.

Does anyone here have a similar experience?

Have you been able to overcome it, and if so, how?

As for the dilemma of copying my music from one device to another, it looks like I'll have to do it the old fashioned way.

I will have to 'pirate' the music I already own, copy to my computer, then move the files to the iPod Touch.

Way to go Apple.

Make me steal that which I already own.

This is such a time consuming pain. While manually fiddling with stealing my music from the old iPod, copying it to the hard drive on my PC, then importing the music to iTunes before moving it all to the iPod Touch I have been double checking things in iTunes.

I just discovered that iTunes has placed every song from every album into the folder of one album. It indicated that it was an unknown album, and unknown artists, but had the album artwork for one of the other albums.

Several thousand songs.

Now it still appears to have imported all the albums correctly, with all the correct songs in the correct order. But it had about 50 albums that it didn't recognize that I have been manually correcting. And some didn't get the album artwork so I have been digging around the innerwebs finding album art and manually inserting it.

That is how I came across this weird one. At first I didn't notice the overload of songs, and simply gave it the name of the album that matched the album art.

Oops.

So I just got done removing all those tunes from the wrong album.

I have wasted an entire day with this.

Sheesh!
