To each his own. I made a rule for myself not to have duplicate functions in my lens lineup. I can duplicate focal lengths, but not what I use a lens for. Hence I won't be accumulating 50s (except, right now, I'm hoarding two of them for a future comparison with the DFA 50).

When something really is never used, I tend to let it go. The wife sometimes politely encourages me...
SWMBO isn't all that polite about my keepers. She doesn't understand the memories attached to the SF-1 and Spotmatic F's in my cupboard.

What's a deacquisition? I can sure accumulate but find it challenging to dispose of camera equipment.
A de-acquisition is when you either give stuff away to make more room for new stuff (or to appease a spouse/partner) or sell it to generate more funds to buy new stuff. It's the other half of the the circle of LBA life.

My DA 17-70 SDM to a fellow forum member. SDM was great and the lens took very nice images. Just too much duplication of focal lengths that are now covered by Limited's and DA* lenses. That and I could use the money to go towards the DA*11-18 purchase fund!

I sold my much loved Yaesu 991a to finance my DFA 70-200. Given the state of the solar cycle it was a good choice!

Especially since they are predicting a Maunder minimum beginning within the next decade or two.

I sold my k3ii system to buy something non-Pentax. I'm ashamed to mention it around these parts, especially because I learned photography with Pentax. On the plus side, I'm satisfied with the photos I'm getting with my new gear and I still love Pentax

When you have time post a thread in the non-pentax section explaining your new choices.

I ended up switching to Sony mirrorless for a variety of reasons. I talk about it in this reply here. I'll stick around on PF, though, since I like this curmudgeonly bunch.

Curmudgeonly! Hmmmppphhhh. None of us who were born in 1940 are curmudgeons, I'll have you know. We are just opinionated old pharts.

I recently unloaded a couple of lenses that were malfunctioning and not worth fixing on eBay (with full disclosure, of course).

A Tamron 28-75/2.8 that no longer communicates aperture was one.
A 645 80-160/4.5 with a broken/loose section of the lens body was the other. This one I replaced with a better copy for only $25 more!

Both would still take fine photos but were annoying and didn't inspire confidence.
