A Step in inventory rationalization (coincident with the overall ‘stuff’ deacquisition* most couples our age embark on a few years after the youngest child moves out):
Sold to a Forum member a surplus M28/2 that’s been knocking around the For Sale shelf since I acquired its older brother. ATM I have 20 lenses on the shelf and only one new lens inbound (like I need another 50 . . .
)
* We’re borderline hoarders. We’re just organized about it. Selling lenses gets the OEM boxes off the storage shelf.
We found a company at
www.theshredtruck.com that will come to the house and shred as much paper as you have. Approximately 10 photocopier paper cartons costs $49 and they do all the work - it just has to be at ground level. Bring a few boxes home from work every day. We have so far 17 30 gal. Bags of clothing for donation to Vietnam Vets and I’ve donated a number of suits to Suits for Soldiers. Accumulated furniture will be offered to Habitat for Humanity or Big Trash Pickup.
We have 800 LP’s in rollaround racks. We trashed the VHS tapes - they’ve all been upgraded to DVD / Blu-Ray anyway. There’s a Philco console B&W tube television in a corner - been there since 1988. Boxes from stereo and TV equipment ‘in case we ever move’, many of them with old loudspeakers or broken turntables and receivers in them, Two eight foot 4 shelf units of Boy Scout gear.
Etc.
