Look in the pockets of fleeces and jackets you’ve worn. I once ‘lost’ a DA40 for an entire summer that way.
Thanks for the concern and suggestion. I actually had a dream that the lens was in the pocket of a coat, so I eagerly searched all my coats this very morning--a forlorn hope, unfortunately. I have also searched all my camera bags, maybe 10 of them, again in vain. The search continues. Thoughts and prayers.

Replacing a lost love

You are quite correct. However, there is a little bit of a twist on that approach. As stated before, I have pretty much halted the acquisition of new lenses, but I have always wanted one of those full-frame circular fisheye lenses, but have not bought one because of their high cost. Now I find that Lens Baby is offering a circular fisheye lens for only a few hundred dollars, so I am thinking that instead of replacing the 10-17mm, maybe I will buy that long-wanted circular fisheye. In my replacement lens research, I have also identified several other candidates for purchase, but I am carefully resisting the idea to buy.

I've gifted a zoom lens that has sat gathering dust on my shelf for the best part of 30 years and there is no realistic chance of me using it often enough (if at all) to justify keeping it. It will be part of a birthday package to someone's son who is developing an interest in photography. If it helps the kid pursue his interest in photography (and Pentax) then that makes me happy.

Well done Carl. Help to build up the next generation of Pentax fans. I am sure that my thirty year old lenses will still work in another thirty years, so a new phase of all-manual LBA will come around. I am not so sure how long these fancy new things with auto-focus and no aperture ring will remain reliable.

I put my Manfrotto XPro Geared Head on eBay this week. The head isn't that bad but isn't quite as solid as I'd like. My primary issue with it is actually an L-bracket issue.
I have a generic RC2 (Manfrotto quick release) L-bracket from eBay that seems fine in my ball heads, but in combination with that geared head, there is a little bit of play between the head and the bracket. The play is annoying but I also worry the connection isn't secure enough and I want to fix this before I break another camera.
I searched for a different/better bracket with RC2 compatibility and the only one I could find was the Manfrotto branded universal one that looks like it will block the battery door and probably some other things.
Sooo...
All of this prompted me to change tripod mounts to Arca style so I have more and better L-bracket options. A new geared head, L-bracket, and parts to convert my main ball head to be Arca compatible are on the way. I'll post about those on the acquisition thread when I get them. Hopefully this will solve my issues!

Someone bought my OM Zuiko 85mm f/2.0 off craigslist, so now I can put that towards Pentax stuff.

I recently purchased two lots of like new condition vintage K mount camera equipment from non-photographers on eBay.
When I received my items, true to description, they looked pristine. Ah, you can’t judge a book-or a lens, by its cover.

Lot one was $30 and included a Sears KS Super, Sears 50mm F2, Sears 135mm F2.8 macro zone and Sears 60-300mm F4-5.6. Lot two was $199 shipped and included a Pentax Super Program, MEII winder, Sigma 28mm F2.8 mini-wide, Sigma 35-135mm F3.5-4.5 one touch, Sigma 80-200mm F4-5.6 one touch, Sigma 400mm F5.6 MC IF and Tokina RMC 500mm F8.0 mirror lens. My trash can now contains one disassembled camera and four lenses in like condition.

De-acquisitions to the trash are:
Sears KS Super (worked fine but a 1/500 top shutter speed and no manual controls-didn’t want it in the first place!)
Sears 60mm-300mm F4-5.6 ( heavy smoker owned it, all elements coated-impossible to fully clean)
Sigma 28mm F2.8 Mini wide ( Wet fungus)
Sigma-35-135mm f3.5-4.5 ( haze and some fungus)
Sigma 80-200mm f4-5.6 ( Fungus)

I’m getting a $75 refund for the three junk Sigmas, so I didn’t do bad in the end.

Yesterday I sold a FA50 F1.4. The one used for this review, and an upcoming solo review of the lens. Really didn't need it, I'm using the FA43 LTD for a normal lens, and didn't like it gathering dust.

Recently sold a SMC-DA70. I miss the quick-shift, but otherwise really like the FA77 much more on the K-1 and I haven't used the 70mm on the K-5 since either.
Another departure was the DA50/1.8. Way too many 50s (at least 7) in my cabinet, and I'm still tempted by the D-FA50/1.4 ...

In my continuing quest to make K-1 primarily my manual lens camera and concentrate on KP for casual and autofocus shooting I sold today:
[LIST][*]DFA 100/2.8 Macro WR
Why sell the 100?

I’ve found mine to pair well with the K-1. It covers the sensor, and forgiving it not having an aperture ring, it is a great lens.

I had 5 Macros between 90mm and 105mm including the FA version. Three are 1:1. I also have a Auto Bellows K and 50mm Bellows lens and a Macro Rail. Since Macro is a manual art the lens would have needed to be useful as a short tele but the AF is slow and hunts like the dickens.

Pentax mx-1
Took 1 year to sell on the internet.
Enjoyed the camera, but too many acquisitions. Hated the low ballers, finally just did not reply.
Now only 4 more to go.

On Friday I swapped an old Sonar type Polaroid camera for two lenses - an Adaptall macro zoom and a Pentacon 30/3.5, which is basically a Lydith. Rather pleased...
