According to an online article I read a while back it is when the capacitors run down completely that the flash no longer fires - as you have done put some brand new batteries in it and run the test fire cycle a few times and the capacitors may just charge up again. I have had a little bit of success bringing a flash back alive again when it seemed bricked.
After reading your note, I retrieved the AF200T from trash, put in a new set of batteries, turned it on and let it set for an hour, and et voila (at the French say) now it works again. I went through all my flash stuff last night and found a defective Yongnuo Speedlite YN560-II. With batteries installed, the battery door wo't stay closed, but now I am afraid to throw it away. Open to suggestion. :>)

So some success there for you too - great. I have seen on this forum a hack where pieces of lego were glued on the flash unit so as to create a decent 'catch' for the door - steal some black 'flat' lego from a grand child and you are set.

AJAY and RACER, thanks for the ideas. I will try them. I think battery doors are the weak link for flash units. I had a similar problem with my Pentax AF-360FGZ.

Recently de-acquired the brilliant DA 12-24 to make room in the bag for the DA 15 to pair with the DA 21 and 18-135. This set up for the K-5 was passed down as I acquired the K-1. Bittersweet losing the 12-24 because of the variety of lovely images it provided me.

Finally got around to buying a set of CR2 batteries to check if a couple of my old film cameras still work. First up was an MZ50 that I've never actually used (I think I bought it 2nd had to get a specific lens that was on it) - put the batteries in, slightly odd whirr, nothing else. A bit of googling indicated that it's probably a well known issue with the mirror motor gears. Batteries then go into my MZ5 (which I used quite a bit back in the day) which appears to have the same issue. So basically I'm down two film bodies, which are now only fit for the bin!

At least my even older Z1p and Z50p are fine, plus I've got a few manual focus bodies (including a newly aquired LX) that also seem functional!

This is a common problem with the MZ series and is very difficult to fix as it requires almost complete disassembly of the camera. It's the reason that I prefer the older AF film bodies like the SFXn for AF, even if they are bigger, heavier and noisier.

Arrived and departed today - Two Minolta 505s, a Sony 18-70, and a Minolta 35-70 plus some other small odds and ends. I basically bought the lot to get the Sony lens, which was DOA (no autofocus), so I've opened a return on eBay and sent it all back. The seller is a big charity selling hundreds of items a week so hopefully won't be a problem.

FA 28-105 f3.2-4.5 for a whooping 77€99. It's a very good lens, but i found myself never using it despite saying every time i looked at files "it's a good lens, i should use it more often".
I never "connected" with it.

My son's camera use is escalating and it now looks like I've lost my K10D as well as my Sigma 10-20mm. Nice to see them still getting used though - they'd served me well for a decade or so but neither were getting any use from me since the K1 arrived.

The DA16-45 F4 is going the same way it seems, as he's laid claim to that alongside the K10D. He was also fondling my LX but has been told in no uncertain terms it's not for him - although I might give him an MX or ME!
