Yesterday, my son & friend and a couple of other friends dropped in for a chat and a sample of Claire's pineapple upside down cake (which didn't last the afternoon). While they were here my son mentioned that he would like to get back into film, and was most disappointed that the RicoFlex he had had disappeared during a not very friendly divorce. I didn't have a 120, and he said that it was difficult to get 120 film where he lives. I did have an SF-1 with an el cheapo Pentax 28-80 on the front. It went back to his home with him.

Can I just point out that this thread is NOT a back door into the Marketplace?

As new K100D with 18-55 and 50-200 lenses to a young lady who wanted a DSLR in stead of the camera in her phone.
Sold the lot for 80 USD. Hope she becomes infected with the Pentax virus.

Unfortunately the CN fans have the most postings on the web. That is most unfortunate. I have been straight Pentax since 1961 when I bought a used original Pentax (1/10, 1/25, 1/50) in a pawn shop. I have never seen the need to upgrade just to get the latest and greatest. I shot sports for a while with that original Pentax and a preset 135/3.5 Takumar for the third best rated weekly newspaper sports section in Canada. The newspaper did not care what brand I was using. They just handed me 2 x 36 exposure rolls of film. One week I got the front page of the section with two verticals on broadsheet. WOW!

PS I was the accountant, not a reporter/photographer.

You and I were not impressed with the kind of tools we got, we just used them to get results.
No problem for me to belong to a strict minority. I kind of like that.
New newer never impressed me.Chose Pentax for a number of good reasons. Backward compatibility being an important one.
It proved to me that Pentax respected the products the company sold many years before.

In film days Pentax was a much respected and well sold camera brand.
The market share decreased in the digital era. That does not bother me.

The K 35mm f/3.5 has now gone, leaving me with a tidy profit for the lens kitty. It went to someone who will use it on a Fujifilm mirrorless medium format camera. Apparently the vignetting is nothing to worry about with the old Pentax primes he's using.

My latest de-acquisition would be 5 quarts of oil... No sign of a leak, but check engine light came on, code said oil viscosity might be off causing the error. Checked the oil, nothing showing on the dipstick. Had 4 half-full quart bottles (old minivan took 5.5 quarts of oil and I'd forget if I still had a half or needed an extra quart when I'd pick up oil) still sitting at the house, so I put them in. Dipstick still doesn't show any oil... I just drove the ~200 miles to Pittsburgh and back with no oil...

I'm tempted to just go and get an oil change done at a shop and skip the crawling on the cold, wet ground in the dark tonight. I think it only costs a dollar or two more than doing it myself.

Traded in my DA 12-24 this morning, in return for (part of) a Tamron 90mm macro lens and a good solid focus rail for my tripod. Dealt with a very helpful, knowledgeable, and well-stocked-with-Pentax(!) brick and mortar store. As nice as that 12-24 is, I just haven’t used it enough over the last few years, so it helped me finance a good solid start into the macro realm.

Good decision to sell a lens you do not use often.
The Tamron Macro is an excellent lens, congratulations!

I have been using macro lenses for many years shooting objects for sale.
Please note a macro lens beats any other lens in this respect.
In a lazy mood I once used the 17-50 Sigma lens for this purpose.
Was not happy with the results. The old faithful 50 mm A series macro lens instantly gave the IQ I was after.

A K5IIs seems a bit much for a baby, might want to start her off with something a bit easier for her to hold...

In seriousness though, congratulations to you and them. It's funny how becoming a grandparent changes you. I hopefully have quite a few years before it happens to me, but I've found it amusing how my dad acts with my kids as opposed to how he was with me, along with the stories my mom has told about her parents compared to how they were with us. (I still remember the first diaper my dad ever changed was with my kids.)

My son has twins (second child - daughter above is #3) and as parents he / they are a lot different than we were, but it is all good. Grandchildren go home. Children are home
