My Jessops 300TTL flash unit went to the council
rubbish dump recycling centre earlier this week. Nothing wrong with it, mint and boxed condition in fact because I bought it (c1995) only as a back-up to my Pentax AF280T. It had old-style Auto and Pentax film-era TTL modes, but I've got too many other and better flash units.
It's been on and off Ebay for about 3 years. First for £5, just to find it a nice home. But an identical one right next to it went for £10 - one that was in poorer condition but sold by a "dealer" (why do people trust dealers more than private sellers? I don't).
So, because many people believe "
you only get what you pay for", I raised the price to £10. I then got a "potential" buyer who maintained a stream of questions for about 2 weeks, all of which I was able to answer positively, but then I never heard from him again.
I considered Ebay again last week and saw that one had just been sold for £30! But from a "dealer" of course. That was the last straw, it went to the dump. Anyway, what stops me just calling myself a "dealer" on Ebay? Anything legal?
A final take from this is you are paradoxically less likely to sell if you ask too low a price because people assume it's rubbish. Either that or give it away for 99 pence which does not even pay for the wrapping.
