Your latest de-acquisition

There's a thread for the latest thing you got.

So, here's one for the latest thing you sold/got rid of.

To start:

Today I donated to Goodwill:
  • Pentax A3000 w/ A 50/2
  • Pentax P3N w/ M 50/2
  • Pentax MX-50 w/ Tamron 28-80
  • Ricoh KR-5 Super w/ Vivitar 50/1.7

Hmmm. there's lot's of goodwill on this site
I have read of this concept, you know, selling lenses but that hurts when I think about it. I'll watch with interest.

Excellent idea for a thread, Tim

Sadly, I won't be adding much to it if recent history is anything to go by I think the last bit of photography gear I unloaded was my Pentax DA18-270, which must have been a couple of years back. Took me a couple of attempts too... I listed it on eBay as being in excellent condition, but with a small piece of debris behind the front element (not affecting images) and with a scratched / dinged front cap. The first buyer requested a return, and gave the reasons as "debris behind the front element and scratched lens cap" So, I removed the front element and got rid of the debris, then re-listed it. It sold shortly afterwards...

Oh, and I gave away a near-mint Helios 44M to a forum member who'd had his gear stolen. It wasn't much of a contribution, but it replaced one of the lenses he'd lost. That was a while back too, though. Since then, it's all been incoming. Not a good state of affairs, really

EDIT: Now I think about it, I also sold a new / unused Lens Turbo II focal length reducer to another forum member, around Christmas last year

I usually have about thirty or so items on ebay, I think it would be a long and not very exciting list it I reported them all as I sold them. The current lots include four or five different T-mounts, for example.

Great idea for a thread. It'll be interesting to see what people are getting rid of, and why. Last month I donated some things to Oxfam:

DA16-45mm (didn't like the colour rendering).
DA35mm/2.4 (didn't like the colour rendering).
And a spare 18-55mm.

But on the same visit I also bought a beautiful S1A with Super Takumar 55mm/2.0 and clip-on meter, so it wasn't entirely about de-acquisition.

I find it very difficult to get rid of camera stuff - even when it's broken or I haven't used it in years - a bit sentimental, perhaps, but, never having had a lot of spare cash, every purchase has been a major purchase at the time, and carries with it a lot of that baggage of hopes and dreams - which aren't for sale, and only reluctantly given away

In answer to the question, the last stuff I (semi-) de-acquired was my K10D with 18-50 and 50-200 kit lenses, which I gave to my eldest son.

As a huge fan of the K10D, I was about to shriek with horror until I read the next bit:

Phew!

I got some lovely images with it, Mike, still some of my favourites, but you reach that point where you think 'what if I see a really great shot? - will 10Mp be enough for magazines, competitions etc?' - so it stopped being the camera I had with me - and we all know that that's the best one

I sold F28 to a forum’s member. It was a really good lens, and I like it a lot.
But after my FA20 broken, I wanted to get a 20-40 so I sold both FA35 and F28 to fund the zoom. And right at the very end, a few days before I order 20-40, I changed my mind and go for DA21 because of its starbursts effect and I am very happy with it. Well… I don’t have anything in between 21 to 50 now!

I like it the idea, but not the reality of it...

however, I have recently sold off three primes that I simply never really connected with:

DA35/2.4
Tamron Adaptall-2 02B (28/2.5)
Sigma Mini-Wide 2 (28/2.8)

Odd, the only 28mm I've really liked using is that Adaptall.

pepperberry, do you have plans for a different 35mm prime, or are you leaving that focal length behind? I see you shooting and posting a lot with that Sigma 28 1.8 and it seems that you're doing well with it.

I need to replace my audio components, which are nearly 40 years old. Surplus lenses must go.

I am thinking of buying a K35/3.5 for that focal length, but just a thought so far..... if I could find something that gave me the character of the Porst 55/1.2 at that length, I'd be smitten....

I liked it better than the Sigma Mini-Wide II, but it never really moved me.... the Sigma 28, however, is rapidly filling the void....
