I have an interchangeable drill. What is the best bit? I like my standard/phillips tip alot but my 1/8th inch drill bit is nice. The 1/16th ones are so eloquent but they break so easy.
Anyway It is an interchangeable drill but i want only one bit to use on it so which should i use. Mind you i have over 100 bits for it.

When I don't know what I'll be drilling, I go with the variable-diameter bit. If I want consistent holes and I can take my time, I go with a fixed-diameter bit. Most people will not notice the difference in hole geometry, but once you get the technique down, it is far preferable to use a fixed diameter. Don't forget to turn off the drill while changing bits - it really cuts down on the flying sawdust problem.

after the regret and emotional distress of so many broken promises I went to lowe's and purchased a package of music wire
I reverently removed them from their plebian plastic package
lightly lubricated one
gradually ground a challenging chisel profile
for all things of moderate hardness a most satisfying bit

this actually is true...I was making pencils using twigs and drafting leads
i needed a long durable drill

I have several settings on my drill torque. Is that what 1/2" vs 3/8ths means?

We *do* get 'Which of the lenses I own should I use' questions, Swanlefitte, if this is the phenomenon you're referring to, and yes, they leave me scratching my head, too.

It's not exactly "What should my favourite colour be?" but it's close.

Should i use a dremel which i have. Regular drill is doomed.
Is the black and decker so much better than the one i have?

Your question is incomplete. Do you want a zoom bit, or a prime bit? Do you need your bit to be WR? Your drill isn't WR without a WR bit, you know. Some third party bits don't focus properly on the hole, so avoid those. Over on Ken Drillwell's drilling site, I learned that pros only use a single zoom drill bit that goes from 1/4 to 5/16. A pro never needs to drill a hole larger than 5/16. If you think you do, you're fooling yourself. Some people think they need high speed drills that go to f 1.4, but you should only use f5.6 drills, because that's what pros use, and they know how to drill, believe it. If you are using screw driver bits in your drill, you have the wrong tool. Just use the pro zoom drill bit, and drill the screws out completely. That's what pros do.

The true craft of drilling was ruined by the introduction of electricity. Suddenly any hopeless newbie could just randomly point their drill in vaguely the right direction, press a button, and a hole would appear automatically. And now with these new digital drills you don't even need to get it right first time: you can just bracket three different hole sizes and let Drillshop sort it out afterwards.

I only ever use fully manual hand drills. Maybe the holes you end up with aren't quite so technically perfect, but that's exactly what gives them their character.

Phillips are rubbish - especially in hammer drill mode, due the lack of shock reduction and low impact frequency.
