Van The Man tells a story or two.
This one is pretty depressing.

Just about anything from Mark Knopfler these days. I like this one.

Mark Knopfler is da MAN! I had them play a song by him and Chet Atkins at my mother's funeral. "So Soft, Your Goodbye."

A lot of Bruce Springsteen's songs tell as story.

Meeting across the River
Racing in the Streets
Spare Parts
Pretty much the entire Ghost of Tom Joad Album are stories set to music
Incident on 57th St.

I can go on but you get the picture.

Yes, Craigbob, I saw The Boss in Melbourne last year, great concert.

If you're a Bruce fan, you might want to pick all the references in this Bob Dylan parody of him. Bob has a wicked sense of humour, and did the same to Prince in 'Handy Dandy'.

Bentley & Craig by Ralph McTell

Long ago in another thread I posted Richard Thompson's 1952 Vincent Black Lightning .

Here's one from another guitar hero regarding a murder case that resulted in one of the the last executions in Britain:

Elvis Costello's Let Him Dangle was also written in reference to the same case.

Telling stories was all Harry Chapin ever did. Too bad he was taken early.

Lots of great songs listed here. Marty Robbins "El Paso" always charms me. Memories of early teens and that obbligato guitar.

Matty Groves by Fairport Convention

I would be remiss not to include the following:

There are numerous variations of the song Matty Groves - from America and the British Isles - but this recording
by Fairport Convention from their watershed 1969 album Liege and Lief is considered the definitive version.

RIP Sandy and Swarb.

Clackers, Yep, I'm a longtime fan of the Traveling Wilburys. I remember picking apart that song when it first came out. It's a shame so many of them are now gone.
