I made the same point to my wife a few hours ago

As I understand it, eight have been successfully rescued at this stage.
Four more kids and the coach to go. As long as the rain continues to hold off they have a decent chance.

confirmation

MSNBC is reporting that the Thai Navy Web Site is reporting 8 out now, leaving 4 more boys and the coach still inside

operation ended for the day

same team as yesterday

of course they need a break

what a great example of international team work and willingness to risk death to rescue others

Four more out (as in 8 so far). Getting huge media coverage there in Oz, including stories focussing on Sandy Hancock's colleague.

Update: just saw this Tragedy behind Dr Richard Harris' Thai cave rescue credentials

The words "brave" and "heroic" are often bandied about cheaply, but I think in this instance they really apply.

It will take several hours to get even the fittest of the boys out, and the frail ones will really need Harry's expertise.
Here's an article about Harry, a true hero that's for sure.

Agree wholeheartedly. The term 'hero' has been diminished by overuse but this cave rescue team deserves the praise it is and will be getting.

Massive effort.

19 divers accompany each group of four boys and the trip takes hours with one gap of about fifteen inches.

A link to Royal Thai Navy Seal FB page for direct update. Most of them are Thai language but they post the latest image and video clip as well.

Musk's submarine idea

Thai cave rescue: Elon Musk reveals child-size submarine - The Washington Post

seems to be more of a " carrying case " than what I would call a submarine

don't know the details of the cave but I do wonder if such a device could work because of the turns and obstructions which must exist

apparently 1 has been rescued today so far

Yeah, hardly what I'd call a "subarine"... And could it really get through that 15"/40cm gap? Hopefully we'll never need to find out.

I would describe Musk's submarine offer as a blatant grab for publicity.

The existing strategy seems to be working quite well....

I question the ability to get it pass the twists and turns

I doubt that it would be a " straight shot " as if it was just a tunnel

a p r stunt ???

possibly

it was developed before the current rescue operations started though

Definitely. And if it had actually saved lives he'd deserve the publicity, too.

Yes. A lot of things have been done right - involving the right people and not rushing bad solutions. A good example of what a group of competent people can achieve when you let them.

I might have been too kind.
Perhaps I should have written "a blatant attempt to grab the limelight from those who were already getting the job done"
But to be fair, he probably mobilised the offer before the rescue was really into its swing.
