an apt email

amongst the various jokes and 'forward this to 23.5 people in the next 4.5 seconds' was this one, it made me think of camera manufacturers

An old man, a boy & a donkey were going to town.
The boy rode on the donkey & the old man walked.
As they went along they passed some people
who remarked it was a shame the old man
was walking and the boy was riding.

The man and boy thought maybe the critics were right,
So they changed positions.
Then, later, they passed some people who remarked,
"What a shame, he makes that little boy walk."
So they then decided they'd both walk!

Soon they passed some more people who thought
they were stupid to walk when they had a decent donkey to ride.
So, they both rode the donkey.

Now they passed some people who shamed them by saying how awful to put such a load on a poor donkey.

The boy and man figured they were probably right,
So they decide to carry the donkey.
As they crossed the bridge, they lost their grip on the animal
And he fell into the river and drowned.

The moral of the story?
If you try to please everyone,
You might as well.. ?
Kiss your ass goodbye!

Then, I'm afraid you're wrong.

The moral of the story is that you can't please everyone. But you've forgot about the proportion of different (groups of) people.

Camera manufacturers who make products that please *most* or *more* people will survive. The others who please less or minority of people will die. That's called MARKET!

To get more people pleased with your products, thats called Marketing!

Yet, take the end of the old story you mentioned, the end results was sad because the man and the boy did the most stupid thing that least people would do!

This is timely as I just read on the "Dear Pentax" sticky someone wanting a bulkier camera for thier big hands. You can't please everyone...(Then again, PeeWee Herman got in trouble for pleasing himself. I guess the "truth" is somewhere in between...)

Unfortunately, there are no images of the donkey plunging to his death, as both the old man and the boy were Pentax users and everyone had told them they can't use their cameras for action photography.
