I know the USPS is busy this time of year

But this is ridiculous...The original estimated delivery was Saturday Dec. 15th...

So far it has taken them 3 days to move it from Buffalo to Syracuse, a 2 1/2 hour drive...

Nope. It was 50 on Friday, and in the 40s all weekend...

My package from Florida, mailed on the 14th, arrived yesterday. But that would have moved by air and the 16th was a Sunday...

7 days to deliver a First Class package from Michigan to NY? Yes, that is ridiculous. That is the sort of delivery time I expect from UPS or FedEx ground from the West Coast...

I work for USPS.
In case you didn't know this is our busiest time of year.
In December parcels often take longer than usual to deliver.

USPS uses a "spoke and hub" system of distribution.
Mail is not sent from station to station (i.e. your local post office),
but instead is always routed through regional distribution centers.

It is not the fastest method but it is the most economical.
It is inevitable that sometimes things get misrouted.

If you conclude there is a problem with your particular item
contact USPS Customer Service or your local postmaster.

You have started several threads specifically to complain about USPS, and posted in others.
Perhaps you should consider your other shipping options in future.

Chris

I have never started a thread to complain about the USPS. About FedEx or UPS sure. And what options? If you buy something from eBay you usually don't have an option...This was a small package, mailed first class, for $3.55. The package that was mailed from Florida was $2 more, I guess that makes all the difference...At least it will be in my mailbox tomorrow and not just left under a dripping overhang...

A simple forum search shows otherwise.

One of my first hits:

Boy, the USPS sure is efficient - Page 3 - PentaxForums.com

There are several others in threads started by others in which you've posted.
If anyone is interested they can simply search too.

Yes, you certainly have complained about all major carriers on numerous occasions.
Perhaps you can find a private delivery service that will meet your expectations.

Syracuse to Rochester to Syracuse. That certainly was efficient. Unless it was just someone with a hand scanner set wrong...

In the past 12-18 months Los Angeles Distribution has mis-routed 3 or 4 parcels coming to me to Post Offices around 30 minutes (driving time) from me. In one case a package went to a city about 30 miles SE of me, back to LA Distrib, to a city 30 miles N of Venice, back to LAD and finally to Venice. The last instance the package (Media Mail) went to Long Beach (vs Venice Beach I guess) then disappeared off the tracking system. Tracking showed the package arriving at Long Beach like 3-4AM a Friday morning. I gave it until Weds to see if it showed up in the system. I then went to a local PO, not my Zip Code PO but a neighboring one which is physically closer, in a busy shopping center, and quite frankly has better customer service. I've been going mainly to them for the 35 years or so I've been living in this neighborhood. I asked if they could track my package since the PO systems show more detail the what's available online to consumers. The system still showed it as being in Long Beach. The service rep at the Post Office called my PO to see if they had the package. No. He calls Long Beach - can't find it. Suggests I call the 800 number and report missing package. By the time I get home it was too call the 800. Next morning I call the 800 number and open a ticket. That afternoon I get a call from my PO - we don't have your package, some one will go to Long Beach to see what's going on. Next day I get a call from Long Beach - rep says they found the package and it was on it's way back to LA Distrib - explanation given: Long Beach was under staffed. No activity on tracking but the next day I get a call from Venice that they have my package and it is out for delivery. Please call if I'm home when it was delivered (which I wasn't). I get home, and the package is waiting for me. Too late to call. The next day just as I'm looking for my phone to call it starts ringing an it's the Venice PO following up. Yes, package arrived and in good condition. Thanks to all.

So despite the foul ups by LA Distribution and Long Beach I have to say Customer Service was outstanding. On top of that I've noticed in the past year or two delivery times (outside of when LA Distrib mis-routes) have gotten better. Priority Packages, both coming and going, get delivered in two days where before would take three. First Class parcels are delivered in 2-4 days whereas before they took 7-10 days. And Priority Packages are being delivered on Sundays when before they were not. And tracking is now free on all packages and shows much more detail than it did when you had to pay extra for tracking.

I don't have any complaints really. And only good things to say about Customer Service. I can't imaging how many packages and pieces of mail LA Distribution must handle every day. In many aspects routing is a very complex task and in other aspects it is repetitive and boring even with automation. The USPS deserves credit for the job they do.

I only have one thing to say about USPS, it works for me, Packages I receive get here before their due date and usually the ones I send out get to their destination before their arrival date. A lens I bought recently, was due this past Monday, came on Saturday. So, thanks.
