What did you get for Christmas? (2018 edition)

Did anyone get that dream camera of lens this Christmas?

perhaps not a dream lens but one that is quite adequate for me:

HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE

I took advantage of the price drop at Adorama

I got myself a new Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 about ten days ago. Does that count?

I also ordered a Samyang 85mm f/1.4 in NX mount but it has not arrived yet. Santa's sleigh must have been held up in the Christmas rush.

I got myself Photoshop elements for focus stacking and hopefully astro layering at some time down the line.

a pretty good year here:

Peak Design Slide (the blue one)

hardly-used K-5 IIs (for M42 lenses)

used Sigma 20mm f1.8 EX DG

used Mamiya Macro Sekor 60mm f2.8

I didn't ask for, or receive, anything photography-related this year as gifts from others...

A couple of weeks ago, though, I received a new, highly-spec'd HP ZBook 15 G5 mobile workstation notebook PC, and a BenQ BL2420PT 24" QHD screen. It's for general use, but especially photo editing. I've been busy with other things, so I'm still in the process of setting it up with the software I want for my preferred workflow, but I'll be done in the next few days. All paid for by me, and not - strictly speaking - a Christmas present, as my old laptop is on its last legs and replacement was essential... but the timing qualifies it as such, I think

I also replaced my bed-side radio a few days ago, out of necessity as my old one died. So I now have a new Revo SuperConnect which gives me FM, DAB/DAB+, internet radio, Spotify (no use to me as I'm not a subscriber), wireless network streaming, Bluetooth and - most importantly - really nice audio. I suffer from pulsatile tinnitus, so I listen to the radio or ambient sounds (usually rain and thunder storms ) every night to help me get off to sleep (and it works without fail ). This new radio has really increased my pleasure of that, so it was a great choice. I love it already

Amongst the various gifts from my family - and my favourite by far - was a new Lodge 12" / 30.5cm cast iron skillet pan that I can't wait to use. In all my years, this is the first really good pan I've owned I'll get round to seasoning it in the next couple of days and start cooking with it in the New Year

But the best gift of all was Christmas lunch, sat at the table with good food and wine, my much-loved Mum at one place, my equally-loved Dad at another, and my best-friend-and-thoroughly-adored cat "Boo Boo" in the final seat, watching us eat and enjoying an occasional finger of gravy and sliver of meat from me (he'd had his proper lunch ten minutes before us )...

My only photo-related gift was a large format 1913 book of 500 landscape images from the American West, defined as starting in western Ohio and ending at the Pacific. It’s remarkable to see Yosemite and the Grand Canyon (and St.Louis) as they looked around 1900.

Does this count? A wonderful neighbor bought this little darling for me for Christmas! She's about one pound, and will only reach 6-7 pounds. Maltese/poodle.

Meet Trixie!

I tried to order the KP when it was on sale for $699.... sadly I missed something in the order form and missed the sale. Did not realize until too late. (Don't make decisions at 1am)

Anyway, I will wait to see if it comes back down again. Surely it will at some point.

For now I will keep shooting the K01

Just bought a K-1 + grip. Finally succumbed to the FF bug. Being on a working holiday with unusually more time on my hands probably had something to do with it.

KP & SIGMA 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DG OS

Got the KP from Adorama on their infamous 'Black Friday' $697 special (with custom strap, Sling Bag ii & new version18-55mm DA lens), so as a longer walk about lens for the KP (I keep the thickest grip on the camera regardless of focal length), I also had Santa deliver me a SIGMA 18-250mm lens which so far has turned out to be more versatile than the venerable Pentax 18-135mm.

2019 is going to be so much fun....

not quite limited to photography but I did get a little help for the photo storage

a Seagate " Expansion " 8.0 T external hard drive,

spent some time having it copy all of my 2018 photos to date, ( there is a little bit of room left )

And family around me, all five of us (from 11) together!
