I took took this to mean that one can find room for improvement (and thus, criticism) in even the greatest works of art...
I shot an interview with a famous artist years ago and he said he thought that all artists needed to have someone standing behind them with a stick so they could slap the artist on the hand and say, "That's good enough! Leave it alone!" His point was exactly what you stated...there's always room for improvement, so if you're aiming for perfection...you'll never finish a work.

It reminds me of Henry Ford's wisdom:
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.”

Quote from someone in my life sometime ago, don't remember who!
"There are no stupid questions." A thought I have had every time I hear/read a question. And then go on to listen/read "so many stupid answers!"
Life is short enjoy the humor, Dean Martin was quoted as saying "pity the man that doesn't drink, when he wakes in the morning that is the best he will feel all day!"

Someone once told me "Cheer up. Things could be worse"; so I cheered up.
Sure enough, things got worse.

My mom always used to say "Cheer up. Better days are coming."

I'm still waiting...

Grandmother told me

when you point a finger, count the number of fingers pointing back at the one who may have helped cause the problem

The famous poet and playwright, Oscar Wilde once said ...." I can resist everything except temptation..."

A sentiment that applies to many of us and unfortunately I am one, who can resist everything except temptation.

However in my particular case, it seems to apply mostly in the area of cameras and lenses. I have found that his statement on the perils of temptation are often on my mind, before I make a purchase, but generally only for a brief time.
