This is where fear of heights pays off. I visited a few years ago and lots of people were bolder than me.

My fear of heights came later in life, my fear of getting stuck in an elevator has been with me for all 72 years.

I, too, am scared of heights.

Thankfully, some folks are not scared to get Close To The Edge...

I have a simple rule that I never move my feet while the viewfinder is up to my eye.

I think the count is now up to 7 at the Grand Canyon. I really don't know the circumstances of all of these falls but a little common sense would have prevented them. We have a lot of fatalities here in the Adirondacks every year and most are people doing something dumb or hiking into places that are beyond their ability or current physical condition.

Close To The Edge - A Band Geek Yes Cover with Chris Clark - YouTube
A very good cover of that song. I like it.

Odd though, the band looks like they are playing in a narrow dead end hallway.

It is natural selection.

Those with dominant and better survival skills stay back enough they don't fall to their death.

The weak ones venture too close to danger, and meet an untimely end.

If you ever want to read how stupid people can really be, get this book. Over The Edge: Death in Grand Canyon, Newly Expanded 10th Anniversary Edition: Michael P. Ghiglieri, Thomas M. Myers, M.P. Ghiglieri, Kim Besom & Bronze Black: 9780984785803: amazon.com: Books?tag=pentaxforums-20&

I have been to the Grand Canyon twice and it amazes me how people act while there.

Thats the cliff top on a group of chalk cliffs called the Seven Sisters and better known as the White Cliffs of Dover (what us Brits get all teary about at times ) There are fatalities there periodically is idiots get too close to the edge - being a chalk face and next to the sea its apt to give way unexpectedly. I have lost count of the idiots I have seen down there sitting on the edge despite the warning signs saying its unstable and can collapse at any moment. Its not THAT high - only about 80-150 feet but when it goes about 50 tons of rock comes with it so even if you survived the drop you'd be buried alive at the bottom - oh and just to add to that once the tide comes in even if you managed to be alive with 50 ton of rock on you you might find it hard breathing once your under 5' of water.

For a long time, I have had the impression that, although the numbers of the human race are increasing, the total intelligence pool remains a constant.
