Extreme Closeup of a Tornado Video

These Stormchasers are crazy. Especially the guy hanging out the window filming, then two keep driving at the end.

Wow! The massive size of it, and to actually see the rotation of it, so close up; I'd be driving in the opposite direction as fast as possible!

as a survivor of multiple tornados (most notably: 2011 Joplin tornado - Wikipedia ), I've seen the beginnings, middles, and aftermath of dozens of tornadoes...

as devastating as they can be, I'm always struck by the savage beauty of them....

I've never seen anything like that! Watching it on video is about as close as I'd want to get... Impressive, though.

Same here! That would be absolutely terrifying to be in the path of that one, or any of them! I complain about our winter cold temps; but that's nothing compared to those storms.

I’ve seen several tornados and 2 waterspouts on Lake Michigan in my life. One of the waterspouts came ashore and did major damage. The closest was a Class 0 that dropped out of the cloud <1/8 mile in front of our car and tore the roof off a garage, then retracted. Nothing we could do but back up. The rain was ridiculous.

I'm glad tornadoes are very rare here in Portland Oregon.

I have seen former homes and had members of my family's homes destroyed by tornadoes on more than one occasion and am not a fan at all!

I'm glad I live in a state that averages 9 tornadoes a year. Mostly F0. Many more straight line wind damage storms...

The only sane thing they did was approach it from the back side as it was moving away, any other approach could have spelled lots of trouble for them. They must have been following it for miles, I heard the driver say they were running out of gas.

The quality of this video is actually pretty good. A former customer of mine was watching the only F5 tornado to touch down in Canada, until it was 4 houses away and he ran into his basement. The video he recorded with his phone basically just shows stuff flying around and his brother yelling at him to get downstairs. The Elie tornado was much narrower than the one recorded in the original post of this thread and touched down for a shorter distance, so even though the wind was stronger, it wasn't as impressive. I was working 50 kms away when an F4 tornado hit Edmonton in 1987 and killed 27 people; I didn't get to see any of the tornado itself, but the aftermath was pretty impressive. My wife's parents house had debris all over their front yard and the closest touchdown was over a kilometer away.
