There is speculation on how life began, but everyone knows it's only speculation. No one is expected to believe it but it's undeniable it happened. Most understand their understanding of science doesn't depend on an origin of life story. Origin of life stories are all myths. However, the fossil record is something we can believe, because we see the fossils. There are many ways to understand the geological progression of the earth.

The complexity of life on earth is only hard to understand only because of the inability of the human brain to understand the time it took. To us, 1,000 years and 5 billion years are the same. On an evolutionary scale 1,000 years is the blink of an eyelash.

An old thread but I have a new problem which may be interesting to some of you. Ginger ale and ginger beer are changing meanings so what do I call them? The main interest is the terms are fermenting now and relatively quickly. I brew so the terms means something to me. Ginger ale is not fermented, beer is. It has nothing to do with alcohol content. Alcohol content under 0.5% is legally not alcoholic. With the popularization of strong gingers beers and alcoholic ginger beers. Some laymen believe an ale is mild and beer is strong in flavor. This is relatively true because small brewers can't compete with large makers of ale. Some laymen think beer is alcoholic because some brands are. To make it more confusing many brewers pasturize and then force carbonate for consistency. Now for marketers to communicate to uninformed laymen they are using the "wrong" term. Ales are labeled beers if they have strong flavor and beers are labeled ales if they are non alcoholic. I just had to call my beer an ale and it bothered me. It is silly but I think anyone who had to ask for screwdriver to pound a nail in would hate the fact they had to call a hammer a screwdriver. I would rather get hammered off screwdrivers than call a hammer a screwdriver.😀 I hope you enjoyed my talk on the evolution of a words meaning and the reasoning behind the paradigm shift from the process to the reception.
